To All NO SIR GIFTS Customers:
All of us know social media web sites, such as MySpace and Facebook, are tools to attract customers, people you went to school with, co-workers, etc. For some all is well established and find it easy to connect with, and for others, not so easy.
On August 11, 2009, we had belived based on our partnering contract with Grant Blackford Mental Health (GBMHI), a NO SIR GIFTS partner since 1987, NO SIR GIFTS employees and customers beleived they could not add GBMHI employees since many of our Grant County, Indiana customers are clients of the mental health agency until the day the employee resigned.
From last Wednesday night (10/28) to Friday afternoon (10/30), we have learned from the Indiana Civil Rights Commission (ICRC) that there has been a case of alleged discrimination after declining a Facebook friend request from a current GBMHI employee. We had belived we were following client duties of GBMHI. Our Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of NO SIR GIFTS, Lynsey Everman, notified me that that GBMHI employees were instead innocent victims of discrimination and that it was yours truly as well as several other NO SIR GIFTS Venues employees that were actually found to be breaking Indiana law.
We sincerely apologize for this overlooked incident. We thank the members of the online communities of Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and YouTube that quickly aletered us and allowed us to take immediate action. We are taking this incident very seriously.
It is unfortunate that the impact this new development overshadows yours truly, Ms. Everman, and the over 9,000 NO SIR GIFTS Venues employees; and all 15,000 GBMHI clients and employees as they comprehend this information. NO SIR GIFTS and yours truly are fully cooperating with ICRC and all available legal resources.
We are in the process of reexamining all our social media practices and are reexamining all our policies to ensure a ruling similar to involving with Grant Blackford Mental Health never happens again. We have auditors at all our Indiana gift stores and 50 fantasy television stations every day and every night to ensure our customers get the best gifts, gift accessories, and all media possible. We are reeling in the damage this has caused and it is not surprising that the ruling by ICRC has caused a lot of damage to NO SIR GIFTS' reputation.
